My husband has been in and out of the hospital three times within the past 2 months. The first time admitted he was falling asleep everywhere and fell down a couple of times. They did many cat scans and a large volume paracentesis taking about 13 liters of ascites fluid. The next hospital stay was two weeks later. He no longer was able to urinate and was throwing up. Had lots of shortness of breath and need oxygen 24 hours a day. He was admited to the ICU for severe Hyponatremia and Acute Kidney Injury. He also had dangerously low blood pressure. He was released with a port to drain ascites at home and that fell out so he restarted Lasix, Spironolactone, and Potassium. Soon he begin filling up with fluids again this time his legs, feet, groin, testicles, and buttocks swelled as well. Went back to the hospital and told them it happened after starting the medications and that he would only be able to have a max of 6 liters due to kidney issues. The removed 7 liters, gave him antibiotics, IV lasix and he was sent home on this list of medications. Lasix, Potassium, Spironolactone, Tamsulosin, Gabapentin, Midodrine, Metoprolol ER Succinate, Lipitor, Prilosec, Lactulose, and Augmentin. My question is are these medications safe if he now has kidney disease? The second visit said he could be CKD 3. Should he be seeing a kidney doctor his GFR was 63 this last visit which was an improvement from the previous visit. He still has edema in legs, groin, buttocks, privates, etc with shortness of breath requiring oxygen 24 hours a day. His disease is NASH Chirrosis of the liver. Thank you! Concerned Wife in Texas.
