Introduction
One of the most surprising facts in modern medicine is the difference between chronic low back pain in modern societies and chronic low back pain in primitive societies.
Physicians treating patients in third-world mission hospitals and other institutions rarely report chronic back and leg problems associated with the lumbar disc. However, back pain is the most common musculoskeletal disorder in our society, and modern medicine is taking advantage of it.
In fact, it is the most costly "illness" in the United States when you consider the cost of disability outside of medical care. What is this statement? Inaction, extended periods of rest, and the use of various electrical therapies such as diathermy and ultrasound were treatments unknown in the primitive world.
Being active is important for everyone, but it is the most serious illness in this area. In contrast, conventional treatment in Western society for chronic back pain associated with lower limb pain often begins with the "real" words of a doctor or therapist. This slow treatment is often associated with various approaches suggested reducing muscle spasms and pain.
By the way, there is no scientific research proving the effectiveness of such electrical appliances. Is there a connection between "modern" lower back inactivity and persistent lower back problems in today's Western society? What action (exercise) is most effective and efficient for treating back pain?
Research at our facility and elsewhere has shown that aggressive treatment plans, including specific back exercises described in this book of treat your own back pdf free, may solve disc problems than inactive treatments.
This Mackenzie workout is different from a typical muscle-focused program. This exercise is aimed at improving the structure and metabolism of soft tissues, including the intervertebral disc's good part.
Authors
In 1931 Robin McKenzie was born in Auckland, New Zealand. After graduating from Wairarapa College, he entered the New Zealand School of Physiotherapy, and complete his graduation in 1952.
He has specialized in the treatment of spinal disorders since 1952 when he began his private practice in Belington, New Zealand. Robin McKenzie developed his own testing and treatment method in the 1960s and is now recognized worldwide as a globally recognized specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of low back pain.
His methods are now being used in the United States, Eastern, and Western Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Scandinavia, and Asia, delivering courses around the world and contributing to the success of his health care systems.
There is evidence in the United States that the best back pain treatment used by physical therapists is the Mackenzie method. The success of Mackenzie's concept of medicine has attracted a lot of attention from researchers in various parts of the world and is one of the most studied systems of medicine.
Various research projects demonstrate the effectiveness and importance of the system. One large study by internationally renowned researchers at the University of Washington in the United States found that patients who received the Mackenzie method performed better in the same month than patients who were manipulated by a chiropractor.
More importantly, patients who received the Mackenzie system reported little or no treatment to achieve improvement, and 72% believed they could fix the problem if they had a relapse.
The doctors and physiotherapists who participated in the course founded the Mackenzie International Institute in 1982 to develop Robin Mackenzie's teaching and research style. It is a non-profit organization based in Zealand, New York.

My long standing sciatic problem flared up earlier this year. Had trouble walking and so much pain I could barely sleep. Went to physical therapy, which didn't help much. However, saw this book on the therapist's desk and asked about it. Bought it and it's working as advertised. My pain is greatly diminished and I walk normally. If your L5/S1 and/or L4/L5 discs are bulging, you can actually reverse it and suck the discs back into place. The pain moves back up your legs, from feet to calves to thighs to buttocks and towards your spine. You can actually relieve the pressure on the nerve, which stops sending pain down your body. I have had pain off and on for 50 years, and nothing worked like this.
This is a great book and the McKenzie method is a godsend. But please use common sense. Know your body. There are exercises in this book that require one to lay on their stomach and raise their upper body and head back. I can't do that because of neck issues. Common sense. Some people have tried exercises in this book and gotten worse. This happens because they do not fully understand the method. When you are in pain, locate that pain first.
I had two months of physical therapy for herniated and bulging discs in my lumbar spine, and the treatment I paid big bucks for is pretty much the same treatment that is laid out in this $10 book. (A PT friend of mine recommended this book and confirmed for me that the premise of her schooling on lower-back pain was the exercises in this book!) If you haven't gotten imaging done or haven't made the leap to get therapy yet, give this book a try. If nothing else, it will give you and indication of where your physical therapist will start.
I think this book got me on the road to recovery. I have a prolapsed disc (S1/L5) pressing on a nerve. I used all the extension exercises to great effect but didn't dare try the flexion ones as I was concerned this may enourage the disc further out. Probably me being paranoid as I've been so ill with my back. The language and instructions are extremely clear indeed so you're never in doubt that you're doing something incorrectly. It is very confidently written and fills you with optimism. Recommended.

I give this two stars as the book made me realise that my health and back are MY responsibility, no one elses and that my posture is s***t and probably caused the issue in the first place (i had thought that weeks ago it was caused by running and even cycling even though i never felt pain during any exercise). I've really focused on posture this week and have stopped slouching entirely when sitting and will start working soon on running posture once my back has further improved.
