Happy New Year and Cheers to 2022!

This year has been off to quite a start, but your team at SOTH has been on the ground and planning to adjust to unforeseen changes in health and safety protocols while working diligently to make sure our therapy sessions stay impactful, fun and engaging for your children! Please take a moment to read our updated COVID precaution guidance below along with new procedures for positive cases and return to therapy guidelines. As a note, Skills on the Hill will continue to offer teletherapy sessions as an evidence-based and creative approach for therapy sessions for families that are unable to join us in-person at our clinics. Talk to your therapist today if you have questions about how we can continue to provide stellar service that meets the changing needs of DMV families during this time.

We look forward to staying connected this winter!

Therapist Spotlight

Enjoy this Q&A with Kevin Dang, OT! Kevin is a joy to have on our staff and he has been having fun with families and ripping through therapy goals at SOTH since joining us in 2021. If you catch him in Virginia, make sure to give him a special Spotlight Hello!

What is your favorite thing about working at SOTH?

  • My favorite thing about working at Skills on the Hill is all the ways that we can work alongside children and have fun. Whether it is in the clinic, at school, or during our summer camps, it has been a pleasure to engage in a variety of activities with all of these great kiddos.

How do you help kids climb to their potential?

  • I help my kids climb to their highest potential by listening to them, and exchanging ideas to channel their creativity to come up with games, crafts, and activities that are challenging, yet motivating and rewarding.

What is the funniest thing you have heard in 2021 from a client?

  • Said to me by a client - Child: "Do you have my mom's phone number?" Me: "I think I have her email but not her phone number, why?" Child: "Just wondering in case you wanted to be my mom's boyfriend."

  • Said to me by a client - "If we're twins and we like the same things, does that mean you're me from the future?"

  • Done with a client - A client tried to teach me how to do the splits once. We went out in the hallway to try it and it's safe to say that I'll never attempt it again, but at least my client got a good laugh out of it.

What is a #hardthing you are working on in 2022?

  • A #hardthing I am working on in 2022 is easing my fear of heights. I love going hiking, but my friends are tired of me standing 20 feet away from the cliff

Cheers to climbing new heights, Kevin!
Community Spotlight:

Adaptive Movement | Youth Personal Training

You don't need to play sports to have a coach!

Adaptive Movement (A/M) helps under-active children of all abilities move with confidence through youth personal training. It's hard for parents to see their kids struggling to stay physically active. Children today are disengaged for many reasons such as not feeling confident in gym class, having learning differences, and using excessive screen time.

As a Youth Fitness Specialist with a background working in special needs therapies, Jason D is a youth personal trainer that will get your child moving while laying a foundation for healthy habits.

Visit adaptivemovement.live to schedule an online consultation today!

Live Action Fitness (LAF) is a small group health and fitness role-playing game (RPG) for kids. Players build their own characters, learn new movement skills, and explore the world on a never-ending fitness adventure.

We invite you to chat with your therapist about this New Year campaign and share what it means in your family or your community to tackle new challenges and set personal goals.
