Since 2019, Dr. Shanker has provided superior care as chair of the Cardiovascular Medicine Division with St. Lawrence Health System in Potsdam, New York, specializing in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology through the diagnoses and treatment of the electrical activities, and issues of the heart. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, the American Board of Internal Medicine Cardiovascular Diseases and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in medicine on a two-year Accelerated Pre-Med Track from Pennsylvania State University in 1993, Dr. Shanker continued his education with a medical doctorate from Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College) at Thomas Jefferson University in 1997. He thereupon served an internal medicine residency program with Brown Medical School, now the Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island from 1997 to 2000, Cardiovascular Research Externships with the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology fellowship programs with the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, from 2000 to 2005 and a fellowship in cardiovascular research with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland from 2000 to 2004.

Dr. Shanker prospered as an attending physician in cardiac arrhythmia service with  Aurora Health Care and INTEGRIS Health from 2005 to 2007, associate professor of medicine and medical director of the Center for Advanced Arrhythmia Medicine at Columbia University in New York from 2008 to 2014, chief medical officer of emerging markets of Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa for Boston Scientific in Singapore from 2013 to 2018 and chief medical officer and senior vice president of the Terumo Medical Corporation, a leading manufacturer of medical equipment, from 2018 to 2019.

Attributing his success to the encouragement of his parents and grandparents, Dr. Shanker's goal for the coming years is to be in a global role in the health field, to be able to make a difference and to reach out to those that are underserved.
