Born in the Ukraine, Dr. Olesnicky immigrated to the United States with his family after World War II. He  was inspired by his father, Bohdan, who is also a physician, to enter the medical field. Dr. Olesnicky's middle name is Theodore which is Greek for Bohdan, meaning "Gift of God." His wife, Ludmilla, who he met in medical school, is a pathologist and they have been married for 53 years. His son is also a physician, his youngest daughter, Virginia, is a professor of molecular genetics at the University of Colorado and his other daughter, Natalie, is a research coordinator for a pharmaceutical company in Switzerland.

Dr. Olesnicky considers his career highlight as a doctor the attainment of his medical degree and when he was licensed to practice medicine. At age 79 in 2021, his goal is to continue to practice medicine in the coming years.
