Term 1 Programs at Occupational Therapy Helping Children

A message from:

Occupational Therapy Helping Children

Dear Parents

I hope you all had a wonderful break over December/January and managed to stay safe & well.

I'm sure you are all looking forward to your children returning to school this week (although probably somewhat nervous) and are starting to think about bedtimes and getting back into a routine.

Please read our blog that will provide you with some great tips about routines and visual schedules. If you are concerned about your child transitioning into school this year, please feel free to reach out for some support.

We are looking forward to welcoming our clients and families back to the clinic in Term 1 and setting new goals with you that we want to achieve this year. As in the past two years, we have our Covid Safety Plan in place based on the guidelines provided by NSW Department Health for small businesses and OT Australia.

We are very excited to let you know that we are starting an Aqua OT Program run by our OT, Belle Parsons. Aqua OT combines an occupational therapy session within a water environment. Being in the water is a natural play environment for children and allows therapists a unique space to help your child work towards their goals. We will use specific pool-based games to provide opportunities to develop play and communication skills! The unique water environment offers opportunities to build your child's:

  • Joint attention and play skills

  • Emotional regulation

  • Sensory processing

  • Turn-taking

  • Following 1-2 step instructions.

  • Developing body awareness and coordination

  • Muscle strengthening

  • Gross motor and motor planning skills

Our Aqua OT sessions run on Tuesday's between 11:30am-2:30 pm. If you are interested in accessing Aqua OT sessions for your child, please call us 9913 3823 or email hello@occupationaltherapy.com.au

We also have Sense Rugby running again this term at Bantry Bay Oval Seaforth.

Sense Rugby at Seaforth begins on Wednesday 9th February and runs for 6 weeks. This term at Seaforth we will be running two different time slots.

3.30pm-4.30pm for 4 -7 years

4.30pm-5.30pm for 7 years plus

Stay safe and well.

5 Healthy Back to School Snacks

Preparing healthy snacks for our kids, which are also convenient, allergen-free, and of course, something your child will enjoy is a challenge all parents face.

The problem with many pre-packaged snacks is they lack any nutritional value for our kids. They contain refined ingredients, often added preservatives, artificial colours and flavours, as well as being low in protein and high in added sugars.

How to Help your Child Start the New School Year on a Positive Note

It's not long now until children in Australia return to school. For some, it will be a smooth transition, while for other children (and their parents) it will be more challenging. My daughter is returning to school, just as she has done so many times before and it's still an anxiety-provoking experience.
