On Sunday, I was waiting in line to be checked out at a local grocery store.

A young man, upper elementary or junior or high school perhaps, walked up and lay down on the belt a miniature car packaged in plastic on a cardboard background. I looked down and said to the young man, "I used to play with those when I was a kid about your age."  He showed me that this car, a Toyota Supra, was part of the Toyota Hot Wheels collection as displayed on the back of the package.  He told me all were available in the store.  I was glad to know that for future reference.

The next time I saw him was when we were loading groceries into our cars.  He saw me and came over with the miniature car in hand, saying, "I want you to have this."  "Oh, you bought this for you," I replied.

But he insisted that he wished for me to have it.  I'm so overwhelmed by this, that I don't really know just exactly what more I said, but, "Thank you. I will be giving this to my great-grandson."  As we both backed from our parking spaces, Mom, I assume, and I waved and smiled.  I'm thinking, how very proud she must be of her son.

This was such a heartwarming experience for me, I had to pull over on the way home to wait for the tears to stop flowing in order to see to drive safely.  And it is still happening, whenever I think about this most unexpected gesture in the times we are experiencing these days.

Exceptional young man, thank you again.  I will always remember you.
