The search continues for a Cañon City man who went missing in the Phantom Canyon area on Feb. 22.
The Fremont County Sheriff's Office first alerted the public that Bobby Stringer, 50, went missing that evening after he and a friend had gone out for a hike.
As of Tuesday, Fremont County and Custer County search and rescue teams have logged 367-man hours in the search within the area of Phantom Canyon.
Undersheriff Derek Irvine said K9 teams contributed 53 hours and drone teams have contributed 24 hours. Fixed-wing and rotary aircraft also were utilized from several different jurisdictions and organizations.
"SAR team members reported that conditions were challenging and dangerous with the steep terrain, low temperatures, wind and snow," he said in a media release Wednesday. "Future operations will be organized and executed when additional information and/or conditions in the search area allow visibility to the ground."
Fremont Search & Rescue reported that there were eight teams searching in the Phantom Canyon area Saturday.
"All searches are challenging, but this one especially so, with the winter storm, daily high temperatures below zero and dangerous snow-covered terrain," the organization reported on its Facebook page Sunday.
They also reported assistance from the Colorado Search and Rescue - State SAR Coordinators, the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, Civil Air Patrol - Cell Phone Forensics and the Colorado Division or Fire Prevention and Control.
Extended plans include additional helicopter/drone overflights, K9 and field personnel searches. Irvine said Stringer's immediate family was briefed Tuesday on activities to date and possible future plans.
