Nestled in the Himalayas, Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand offers a blend of marvels. Although Dehradun has developed into a bustling metropolitan city off-late, there is also the lingering charm of an enigmatic hill station and the serenity of a spiritual haven. The temples here are a major draw for tourists who come from all across the subcontinent.  Some may have even booked a Delhi to Dehradun flight only for pilgrimage. Let us look at the prominent places of worship to visit.

1.    The Buddha Temple

Built-in the mid-20th century, this temple was created to preserve the traditions of the Tibetan Culture. It is a sacred shrine for monks and a charming architectural monument reminiscent of Japanese architecture, for tourists. A 220 feet tall Stupa, right in the center of the courtyard, is astounding proof of the fineness of Buddhist architecture. Mural paintings elaborating important events in the life of the Buddha adorn the walls. Panoramic views of the city can be enjoyed from the topmost point.

Above all, offering prayers to the gigantic statue of the Buddha is a heavenly experience no less.  You can spend hours, savoring the tranquillity of the surroundings here. Watch the ever-smiling monks and lamas as they attend schools within the temple premises. You are likely to be transported to another world.

2.    The Dat Kali Mandir

This temple, on the Dehradun Saharanpur highway, is extremely popular among pilgrims all across the Indian subcontinent. You can visit en route to Saharanpur, on your way to the Shakumbhri Devi Temple. Pilgrims visit the Dat Kali Mandir to offer flowers, flour, or oil to the goddess. You can also pack some holy Prashad back home on your Dehradun to Delhi flight. Some visit to simply enjoy the peaceful ambiance. Cradled in between mountains and lush green valleys, serenity reigns here. Spend some moments meditating or experiencing a sense of oneness with the almighty goddess. If you visit during Navratri, there is a huge feast organized during the nine days, and you can even witness grand aratis steeped in religious fervor.

3.    The Laxman Siddh Temple

This is one of the most famous temples of Dehradun. A rejuvenating walk right through the lush foliage of Lachhiwala hills takes you to this holy shrine. Some believe that Swami Laxman Siddh lived here. Another theory states that Laxman, the younger brother of Lord Ram, prayed here for the atonement of his sins after killing Ravana. Whatever the history, the shrine encompasses a delightful charm. The River Song flows close by and the bubbling of the spring only adds to the music. It is also a heaven for bird watchers. You can spend endless moments sitting here and enjoying the heavenly confluence of the creator and his creation. If you travel in April, you can also take part in the Laxman Siddh fair.

Dehradun and its neighboring areas boast of some of the most sacred shrines in India. If you have the time, you can also visit the Tapovan Temple, The Sura Devi Temple, and The Sanatala Devi Temple, among others.
