Find a Support Group

Support groups are generally a collective of people going through a similar problem or experience. Some support groups are about overcoming a problem such as addiction. Other types of support groups involve supporting and encouraging one another through a shared event or a change in life's circumstances. They help you cope and eventually overcome or incorporate changes into your life depending on the issue at hand.

As an example, the Embrace Grace support group offers a positive and proactive group for both mothers and fathers when they are experiencing unexpected pregnancies. In this type of support group, there are experts to guide the expecting parents through all of the stages of pregnancy beginning with the moment they learn they are pregnant through birth and beyond.

As with so many support group formats, the group or your ability to be a part of it does not end when the reason you sought out the group ends. Regardless of your whereabouts on the road of life, your support group will continue to be there for you and is a shared opportunity to help each other as you learn and grow.

Control your Breathing

Throughout stressful events, you likely tend to tense up and hold your breath. Watch this video for tips on how to control your breathing to alleviate stress.

Seek Mental Health Services

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you simply need professional help. Reaching out for mental health services is a normal and healthy action to take when you find yourself in need. In today's society, there is a change beginning to normalize mental health care for everyone.

Experiencing the death of a loved one, a common hormonal shift during pregnancy or after childbirth, or the day-to-day stress of a pandemic are all events that can easily become a heavy toll on anyone. Taking steps to improve your mental health is good for you and those in your life.

To find the best care for your specific needs, talk with your healthcare professional, a clergy member, friends, and family, or utilize public resources. Talking over your concerns and discussing life events are necessary for everyone, regardless of where they find themselves in life. No matter what, reach out to someone when you need help. Even if they are not in a position to aid you on your journey, they can help you find someone who is.

Support groups and mental health care are waiting for you to help and guide you to your best life. Your path in this life is not linear. There will be bumps and detours. You can handle these occasions and rise above them. Be healthy and live happily.
