After obtaining a bachelor's degree in music education in 1990 from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts, Ms. Johnston later continued her education with a Master of Science in curriculum development and instructional technology in 2000 from the State University of New York at Albany.
Ms. Johnston provided superior education as a K-5 music teacher from 1991 to 1995 with School District 74 in North Anson, Maine and subsequently from 1995 to the present with the Niskayuna, New York Central School District. Keenly involved with community affairs, Ms. Johnston is a supporter and contributor to the St. Joseph Indian School, American Indian College Fund, Food for the Hungry, City Mission of Schenectady, Niskayuna Friends of Music and has volunteered with the International Youth in Mission Trinidad and Tobago team of the Nazarene Church. Moreover, Ms. Johnston has written grants for Niskayuna Friends of Music Enrichment.
Ms. Johnston's professional memberships include the National Association for Music Education (NAFME), New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and Phi Delta Kappa, a professional society for educators. She holds an NYS Permanent Teaching Certificate for Music Education for K-12 students.
Ms. Johnson takes the greatest pride in her relationships with students as a career achievement. In the near future, she would like to work to attain a two-community grant that could partner with her school and another elementary school.
