How To Encourage Your Child To Be Physically Active

Dear parents!

Exercise is essential for the health and well-being of children. Physical activity helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, for example, it helps to keep a healthy body mass index and reduces the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease later in life. This helps children sleep quickly and sleep better.

Beyond the advantages to the body, physical activity enhances the mental and behavioral health of the child. It enhances the child's enthusiasm, optimism, self-esteem, school performance, focus, and behavior. It also reduces anxiety and depression. It can also foster teamwork and friendship when it is part of an organized sport.

  • Parents' positive attitude helps a child who is reluctant to exercise.
  • 60 minutes of physical activity per day.
  • Talk to your pediatrician.
  • Emphasize fun and choose activities that are appropriate for development.
  • Provide a safe environment.
  • Be the model, children who regularly see their parents enjoy sports and physical activity are more likely to do so themselves. Play with your child more often.
  • Limit screen time, including time spent on TV, videos, computers, and video games every day. Use free time for most physical activities.
  • Don't overdo exercise and physical activity. If it is painful, your child should slow down or try a less vigorous activity.
  • Choosing the right activities for a child's age plays an important role. However, if you don't, the child may get bored or frustrated.
  • Some of the right physical activities for preschool children are kicking or throwing a ball, playing tag or chasing a hero, jumping on one foot, riding a tricycle or bike with training wheels
  • Some of the right physical activities for school-age children are baseball, basketball, martial arts, biking, hiking, and playing.
  • Some of the right physical activities for teenagers are Yoga, Skateboarding, etc.
  • Pack food, water, and snacks from home for them. Preferably fruits to avoid dehydration.
  • Provide a healthy balanced diet that includes protein, green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, and plenty of water.
  • Make sure your child is able to remember your phone number in case of an emergency.

Every parents' positive attitude can help their child who is reluctant to exercise. Keep yourself active and support your children's interests. If you start this early enough, they will consider the activity as normal - and fun - as part of your family's daily routine.
