Finding a nanny can be difficult and stressful, but there are tools and techniques you can employ to make the search for the perfect nanny much easier. Here's how you can find the best nanny for your children without losing your mind in the process.

Use an Agency

One of the easiest ways to find a nanny is by using an agency like Seattle Nanny Network Inc. Nanny agencies do the hard work to find candidates and give you the tools you need to hire the best fit. Going through an agency to find a nanny will be far less stressful and time-consuming.

Ask Your Network

A great way to kick off your search is by asking friends and family members for references. If you know someone with a nanny, ask them what they did to find a good match. You can also post on social media to reach a larger network of people who can help you with your nanny search.

Nail Down the Details

When you are looking for a nanny, it's important to be clear about your expectations. If CPR certification is a requirement, be clear about that. Some requirements, such as discipline styles, may not be as concrete, but you should be as clear and detailed as possible about what you are looking for when you write your ideal candidate description.

Present Yourself Well

Due to the nature of the job, it's important to present yourself professionally. A nanny plays an intimate role in your family's life. They will be working closely with your children inside of your home. Naturally, they want to feel safe and supported in their work environment, so it's important to present yourself well. Try to avoid any language that could be interpreted as demanding or condescending, as this will deter most experienced, knowledgeable candidates from applying.

Filter on Facts, Interview on Instinct

Once you have resumes pouring into your inbox or recommendations coming from an agency, you can start eliminating candidates based on their resumes. If they don't have the experience you are looking for, you don't need to give them a second thought. Candidates whose resumes fit the bill can be called in for interviews. If all the candidates are equally experienced, you can rely on your intuition to help you pick the right nanny. It's important to pick someone you actually like and who you can see your children forming a healthy bond with.
