A sadistic father who killed his two-year-old son by shooting him with a BB gun, stabbing him and suffocating him with a pillow out of spite towards his ex-partner has been imprisoned for life. Lukasz Czapla, 41, was unanimously found guilty of the killing of Julius Czapla at an address in Muirhouse, Edinburgh, in November 2020.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard it was in an act of vengeance and jealousy to get back at his ex-partner, whom he'd discovered was in a new relationship.
Lord Beckett moved directly to sentencing the convicted offender to life in jail with a minimum of 23 years before parole, and speaking after the sentencing, mother Patrycja Szczesniak said she feels her son's fear and pain every day, and wishes that she could hug him.
She said that she only wanted the best for him and if only she could turn back time and have her child in her arms again.
Czapla had previously admitted to nine other charges on the indictment, including dangerous driving offences and possession of an air gun.
The court heard that the sentences for each of those would run concurrently with his life sentence.
Lord Beckett, addressing Czapla, said that he'd been found guilty of killing his two-year-old son and that for murder his punishment would be life in prison, and he concluded Czapla acted out of malevolence to kill the child to get back at his mother.
Following the ruling, Patrycja released a statement through Police Scotland saying that her little boy had trusted his father completely, and she said that despite the breakup with Juliusz's dad, she wanted him to have contact with their son, and that she never stopped him seeing their son, and that their son loved his father like every child loves their dad.
She said that Juliusz was killed only for vengeance because his father wanted her to suffer and that he succeeded and achieved his goal, at the expense of her precious little boy's life, and if only she knew it was going to happen because she never believed that he could do that to his child.
Patrycja said her ex-partner shouldn't have the right to any defence and she promised to fight to ensure the monster never leaves prison.
The former IT technician offered to plead guilty to culpable homicide, pleading diminished responsibility, but prosecutors declined his plea and sought a murder conviction.
How any parent could kill their own flesh and blood because they were jealous of their ex-partner is just beyond me. This man should not be allowed any parol, life should in this case be life! He should have got life with a minimum of 99 years.
This man took the life of a young child, that had his whole life ahead of him, he could have become anything that he wanted, but now, sadly that's been taken away from him, and if you take a life then you should be imprisoned for the rest of your life until you take your last breath.
