The latest non-invasive solutions for cellulite

Let's be clear: cellulite can affect anyone. Defined by the dimpling of skin around the legs or buttocks, up to 90 per cent of women are thought to have it to some degree. And while it's much more common for women thanks to the way fat sits beneath their skin, it's thought that 10 per cent of men are affected, too.

Still, plenty of myths surround cellulite – from why we get it, to how we treat it. We're still learning more every day, but the reality is that it's simply the way fat is seen when there is either weakened connective tissue or a thinning skin barrier. Cases can vary – ranked by 'grades' from zero (no visible cellulite) to three (visible dimples when sitting down and standing up).

Regardless of where yours ranks, there's no definitive way to 'cure' cellulite. However, there are many ways to reduce its appearance – and some don't even require surgery. To find out which non-invasive solutions are worth your time, we spoke to the experts at selfologi, an innovative digital platform compiling everything you need to know about cosmetic treatments, and the possibility to book seamlessly, all in one place.

H2: How can I treat cellulite?

While there's a long list of potential treatments for cellulite, there are also countless myths. Creams marketed as cellulite solutions may temporarily brighten or tighten the skin but can't penetrate anywhere deep enough to get to the root of the problem. The same goes for DIY tips like coffee scrubs.

However, there are at-home solutions with a little more weight behind them – including body brushing. While there's no hard, scientific proof that it boosts circulation enough to reduce cellulite, there's plenty of anecdotal claims that it works. Plus, worst case scenario, you just scrub away all your dead skin cells.

H2: Which treatments can help?

H3: Cryolipolysis

Best for: small pockets of fat

Although its main goal is to destroy fat with icy temperatures (its name literally means 'cold' and 'fat destruction'), cryolipolysis is also a handy tool for tackling cellulite. A handheld device is used to damage fat cells over the course of several sessions, all without damaging the skin.

H3: Velashape

Best for: tightening skin

If heat's more your thing, Velashape is another non-surgical option that uses a combo of high temperatures and massage. This breaks up fatty tissue and encourages blood flow for smoother, tighter, less dimpled skin. Sessions are quick and comfortable, but the number you'll need depends on each case. On average, expect to attend anywhere between three and six.

H3: Sculptra

Best for: long-term results

Think of Sculptra as a next level filler. Injected into areas affected by cellulite, it doesn't just fill in dimples, but boosts collagen production for firmer and smoother skin in the long term. Unlike regular hyaluronic acid filler, you won't get to enjoy your results straight away. However, you'll be able to reap the benefits within six weeks. Even better, they should last for around two years.

H3: Laser

Best for: thin skin

Laser cellulite treatment – the most popular of which is Cellulaze – inserts a tiny laser fibre beneath into affected areas of skin. This breaks up the tight fibrous bands causing dimpling. Cellulite also has a habit of thinning skin, so this helps to thicken the area to reduce its appearance. Results last between six months and one year.

H3: Carboxytherapy

Best for: grade three cellulite

Injecting the skin with sterile carbon dioxide, carboxytherapy reduces fatty deposits and promotes skin healing. This can treat a long list of skin complaints – cellulite included. A study in 2016 found that a full course of sessions reduced cellulite considered a grade three to a grade two. As always, results differ from case-to-case, but you can expect them to last for around six months.

H3: RF microneedling

Best for: strengthening skin

Microneedling isn't just for the face. Combining radiofrequency energy with multiple micro-injuries to the upper layer of skin, RF microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production to minimise the appearance of cellulite. Patience is a virtue with this treatment; it can take up to eight sessions to get your results. Then you can enjoy them for around four months before you'll need a top-up.

H3: Endermologie

Best for: quick treatment time

Deep massage may be all you need to reduce the appearance of your cellulite. With a handheld mechanical device, endermologie compresses the skin to help shift the fluids trapped in fatty tissue. Sessions only take around 30 minutes to complete, they're comfortable, and downtime-free. The perfect trio.

H2: Treating your cellulite

Deciding to tackle cellulite is a personal choice – one that's easy to action at selfologi.com. After choosing your treatment, you can browse the biggest collection of clinics in the region before booking directly on the platform. Even better, this August, you can enjoy exclusive deals on cellulite treatments such as cryolipolysis, Velashape, and more.
