Join the Royal Gorge Regional Museum and History Center for another intriguing and informative virtual genealogy program presented by Terri Meeks. Most records are recorded on a geographical basis. Using maps to locate the events in ancestors' lives can untangle discrepancies and lead to further discoveries. This program is free and open to the public but registration is required at museum.canoncity.org and click on events or calendar to register for the event.

Please register online or contact the museum for more information. This program will be held over Zoom on July 16 from 9-10 a.m. The program is free and open to the public but registration is required.

The Museum and History Center is located in the City of CaƱon City's former Municipal Building at 612 Royal Gorge Blvd. The hours of the Museum and History Center are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call the museum at (719) 269-9036 or send an email to historycenter@canoncity.org.

Statewide COVID-19 testing sites continue into July

The state of Colorado continues its commitment to providing safe, accessible COVID-19 testing options for all Colorado residents as it consolidates testing sites for July amid a decline in demand and the increase in testing through health care providers and at-home testing.

As previously announced, the state of Colorado will close several underutilized testing sites at the end of June as it continues to strategically implement Colorado's Roadmap to Moving Forward. The remaining 21 state-supported community testing sites have a total capacity of 8,000 tests a day, with the ability to scale up to roughly 17,000 tests per day in a surge state.

COVID-19 testing is also available through multiple federal programs including COVIDTests.gov, where you can order free at-home tests to be shipped directly to your home, a pharmacy-commercial laboratory partnership titled Increased Community Access to Testing (ICATT), and the Test to Treat program.

Additionally, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment added more than 150 pharmacy testing locations to its testing services locator map where Coloradans can find COVID testing sites throughout the state.

The 21 state-run testing sites that will be open in July include Fremont County Public Health, located at 201 N. Sixth St.

Southeastern Colorado Centerline Rumble Strip Installation

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Surface Preparation Technologies (SPT) will be constructing centerline rumble strips along sections of 17 highways in southeast and south-central Colorado.

The project will include centerline rumble strip installation and pavement markings along segments of Colo. 115 in Fremont County.

Rumble strips are an effective measure for reducing roadway departure crashes. Grooves are cut into the pavement which causes a vibration and rumbling sound when the tires of a moving vehicle come in contact with the cut pavement. The noise and vibration produced by rumble strips alert drivers when they leave the travel lane. Centerline rumble strips reduce head-on collisions and cross-over crashes, while shoulder rumble strips reduce run-off-the-road crashes and warn drivers when they have drifted from their lane.

SPT is the contractor for this $1,847,077 project.
