The Cañon City High School Cross Country teams competed at the Coronado Cougar Classic Invitational last Thursday and had some positive results.
The girls' varsity cross country team placed 12th as a team, headed by junior Alissa Rall (who placed 11th) with a time of 19:31 in the 5000-meter race.
The top-placing runners in the girls' varsity race are as follows:
- Alissa Rall - 19:31
- Alexi Till - 20:32
- Piper Montoya - 21:45
- Pauline Cox - 24:03
- Aaliyah Guidry - 24:07
- Angelyna Darcy - 25:14
- Elizabeth Ehrie - 30:56
The boys' varsity cross country team also ran in the Invitational but, because five runners are required to garner a team score, did not place as they ran only four runners.
The three boys' varsity runners had the following times:
- David Cox - 19:17
- Trystan Archuleta - 20:09
- Landen Gutormson - 22:40
- Oscar Hartman - 31:09
"Both teams did a great job today, and I was especially proud of the girls with their finishing times. As they continue to get stronger with each race, they are gaining confidence in each other's racing ability, allowing them to pace themselves according to their team position," said CCHS cross country coach Marcy Epperson. "The boys continue to improve at each event with support and encouragement from their teammates. It is fun to watch them race together."
Both teams will compete next week at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, which is their home invitational of the season.
