Some surgeons enjoy using a femtosecond laser despite the high cost because it can perform certain treatments such as this cubing and softening modality that are unavailable with other devices. If you are still in your training as a resident or fellow, yes, you should definitely learn to use femtosecond lasers for cataract surgery if they are available in your program. However you must not develop a reliance or crutch where you absolutely must have a femtosecond laser available for your surgeries.
