Florence and Cañon City experienced their boom times in what is now called "The Gilded Age", which lasted roughly from the end of the Civil War to about 1920.
Stained glass windows reached a height of popularity in this period with installations in churches, businesses and homes. This area still boasts some of the best windows.
The Bell Tower Cultural Center is organizing a self-guided driving tour of many of the most wonderful stained glass installations on Dec. 24 from 6 p.m. to midnight. Locations have agreed to light their windows from within to add a new dimension to your family outing to "see the holiday lights."
The map will be published Dec. 15 with a small information brochure and will be available at the Bell Tower, 201 E. Second St. in Florence, as well as online at Facebook: Bell Tower Cultural Center.
Anyone who would like to add an address to the map may contact Windowtourbeverly@outlook.com or at 719-784-2038 (leave a message) before Dec. 10. If you don't want to be on the map, light up your treasures anyway! It's all about color, art and light!
