With more than 25 years of experience as an educator to her credit, Ms. Saunders has excelled as a teacher with the Burnhamwood Charter District since 2004. Harboring a lifelong passion for working with children, she attributes her success to the flexibility of her school districts, which enabled her to try new things within her field and make a difference in her student's lives. Among the many highlights of her career, she is proud to have established the robotics and arts programs in the Burnhamwood Charter District, as it helps recruit competitive students to the district and fosters skills that had not been previously offered. Beyond her primary professional efforts, Ms. Saunders is active as a teacher mentor as well as a public speaker for educator's conferences at the El Paso Holocaust Museum.
Ms. Saunders initially pursued a higher education at the University of Texas at El Paso, from which she graduated with a bachelor's degree. As a testament to her exceptional work, she was selected by her peers as the Teacher of the Year in 2013. She additionally ushered the robotics team within her district to win third placement and second placement trophies at their regional robotics competition. In 2021, she was further honored by the school board for the Burnhamwood Charter District as one of their Top Teachers. Looking toward the future, Ms. Saunders hopes to continue making a presence in the classroom while mentoring new teachers, cementing her legacy and potentially exploring new fields, including interior design.
