Physical therapy is the most effective method of treatment for children and growing adults who have cerebral palsy. Physical therapists tirelessly work with children with cerebral palsy to assist them to improve their mobility, balance, flexibility, and muscle strength. Most doctors urge that children with cerebral palsy receive regular physical treatment to build proper posture, crawling, climbing, walking, and muscular abilities.

Moreover, the physical treatment enables CP children to:

  • Improve independence by assisting in the expansion of the range of motion
  • Physical discomfort and agony should be reduced.
  • Overcome physical constraints and barriers.
  • Reduce the likelihood of bone deformation.
  • Boost your fitness, flexibility, balance, and posture.
  • Discover adapted equipment and how to use it.

A physical therapist will develop a comprehensive treatment plan based on each child's strengths and shortcomings. Once a treatment plan is devised, children can benefit from their specific physical plan, which can help with cerebral palsy side effects such as:

  • Muscle atrophy
  • Joint function deterioration
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Spasticity of the muscles
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Inflammation of the joints

A Typical Physical Therapy Session for CP Children

Before a child takes up physical therapy, a thorough medical history and physical examination are performed. Aside from the physical examination, a qualified physical therapist will do a variety of other tests to evaluate muscle control, functions, and mechanics, such as:

  • The range of motion
  • Physical stamina
  • Flexibility and equilibrium
  • Endurance
  • The integrity of the whole
  • Posture
  • Integration of the senses
  • Cognitive performance
  • Reflexes
  • Breathing

Following that, a care plan is developed based on the child's test results. A physical therapist will then define goals for a child's development and work with the youngster to achieve those goals. Typically, this entails the therapist and their assistants manipulating a child's body while they perform stretches, strength exercises, or games with specific movements or aims.
