All this week we are featuring cases of MSICS: manual small incision cataract surgery. The incision is not all that small but it has far better architecture than the old-style, traditional manual extra-capsular cataract surgery (ECCE) procedure. While this technique is widely used around the world, many USA ophthalmology residents do not get a chance to learn it while in training. It is a very useful technique and I use it, albeit rarely, in our Beverly Hills surgery center. This video shows two MSICS: one in a small pupil case and the other with a weak corneal endothelium from Fuchs' dystrophy.
