While the recent attempt to reform the PMPRB pricing guidelines have come to a quick halt, many have focused on why it happened, how it happened or try to lay blame on who is responsible. Many are also quick to conclude that it is the end of National Pharmacare. I thought we should unpack this a little. The stakeholder in this case was the pharmaceutical industry. They didn't not agree with the pricing regulations. Instead of focusing on who to blame, can we listen why they didn't want it to happen? I know the answer is obvious. There is no gain for the industry to agree to price lowering when their pursuit is to be profitable. But we also can't handcuff them either.
