Start your engines for the 41st Annual Cañon Car Club Car Show. The show will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Abbey grounds.
Unlike other events, admission to the show is completely free and members of the club invite the community to come and share their love of rims, superchargers, and hot rods. There will be a variety of prizes (both cash and material) available throughout the day with over $3000 in prizes. Participants must be present to win.
Among the participants this year will be Joe Dozzo and his 2005 Ford GT. Dozzo's love of cars began with a 1966 Corvair Corsa which he rebuilt with his father.
However, his love of cars has largely remained with a single manufacturer: Ford.
Throughout the years, he has owned a variety of Mustangs and other Ford specialty cars.
"I've mostly owned middle 60's kind of vintage cars. We have a couple of '69 convertibles right now. You can't have too many cars," Dozzo said. "The Ford, the Mustang just caught my attention."
He originally owned a black 2005 Ford GT in 2006 but, as he longed for a white specimen of the car, bided his time until the current vehicle he owns came on the market in 2010.
The 2005 Ford GT was manufactured to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Ford's existence as a producer and only about 4,000 were made. Dozzo's model exhibits a particularly unique set of headlights which are cleverly designed in the shape of the number '100'.
Dozzo has made very few alterations to the car, one of which being the installation of a supercharger that pushes the car beyond its original top speed of 205 mph.
This is Dozzo's third year participating with the club and looks forward to the show.
"It's a good group of people," he said. "The comradery of the car club show and driving we do from time to time is a great hobby. It keeps me busy."
According to club member Brad Knotek, about 230 cars are already registered for the event and, if the event stays consistent with previous years, they estimate that over 300 with partake.
"We welcome all cars: hotrods, custom, and special interest," said Knotek.
Car lovers are converging from all over the country to attend the event. From the reaches of Iowa, Arizona, and Wyoming, the "gearheads" will likely find a mecha on Saturday.
Attendees will not go hungry as several food trucks are slated to remain on the premises throughout the day.
The proceeds from the event, from a combined auction, raffle, and merchant donations, will go to the Orchard of Hope of Fremont County and the good work that they do.
Pre-registration for participation in the event is open until Saturday and is $40 to enter a vehicle. It is $20 to enter a second car and potential participants can also register on the day of the event. Register online at www.canoncarclub.com.
There will be a special picnic on Friday evening for car entrants only.
