Wildlife getting into a Black Hills substation and causing damage to equipment led to a power outage late Thursday night.
Julie Rodriguez, the Senior Community Affairs Manager for Black Hills Energy, said the outage lasted approximately 3.5 hours and affected more than 2,300 customers.
All customers were restored by about 1 a.m.
In a separate incident, the Cañon City Area Fire Protection District was dispatched to a dumpster fire behind the Alta Gas Station located at Orchard Avenue and Fremont Drive.
Lt. Shane Roberts said the fire was contained to the dumpster and its small privacy fence enclosure.
Around the same time, Roberts said crews were called to the 1200 block of Harding for the electrical transformer that had blown.
Rodriguez said the two incidents were unrelated.
