The Fremont County Sheriff's Office has arrested the mother of a 6-month-old infant who was found unresponsive on Aug. 6 in Penrose.
The FCSO on Thursday released information on its CrimeWatch page, stating that on Aug. 6, deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of South Broadway Street in Penrose in reference to a nonresponsive baby.
Penrose Fire Department personnel advised arriving deputies that no life-saving measures could be taken and requested detectives to respond. The subsequent investigation led to an arrest warrant for the infants' mother, Shealee K. Smith, 18, of Pueblo.
Smith was arrested Thursday on charges of child abuse resulting in death and reckless endangerment.
According to the CrimeWatch post, the court released Smith from custody on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
Smith is slated to appear for filing of charges Wednesday.
