Felicia S. Hodge, BrPH, a professor at the University of California Los Angeles, has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of nursing education.
Leveraging more than 45 years of experience in her chosen field, Dr. Hodge has earned acclaim through her work at the University of California Los Angeles, where she is a professor at the School of Nursing and at the Fielding School of Public Health. Bearing a particular focus on the areas of Native American health, cultural competency, health disparities, and environmental justice, she seeks to provide a remedy for longstanding deficiencies in health outcomes and community wellness among Native Americans and Alaskan natives.
Previously, Dr. Hodge found success in various roles at a number of academic institutions, including as a professor at the University of Minnesota, the University of Hawaii, the University of California San Francisco, and the University of California Berkeley, where she has also served in several administrative positions, such as the founder and director of the Center for American Indian/Indigenous Research and Education. Outside of her work in education, she has also served as principal investigator for several large research projects regarding Native American health. Additionally, Dr. Hodge has sat on the National Advisory Council of the National Institute of Nursing Research, and served as a member of the Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. Across the span of her career, she has also contributed to numerous published articles, many of which have appeared in such publications as the Statistical Journal of the International Association for Official Statistics, the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and the American Journal of Education and Information Technology, among many others.
Dr. Hodge first sought an education at Santa Rosa Junior College, where she earned an Associate of Arts in 1970. Following this accomplishment, she went on to study sociology at Sonoma State College, from which she attained a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. Dr. Hodge subsequently attended the University of California Berkeley, where she received a Master of Public Health in 1976, a Doctor of Public Health in 1987, and undertook her postdoctoral fellowship at the Alcohol Research Center.
Well-regarded for her many accomplishments in the field of public health, Dr. Hodge was inducted into the inaugural cohort of the UCLA Faculty Mentoring Honor Society in 2022, and has been bestowed with such accolades as the Award in Recognition of Mentorship of Minority Students from UCLA, the Frank C. Dukepoo Award from the Native Research Network, various certificates of merit, and the Everyday Hero Award from the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. In accounting for her success, she largely credits the motivation and encouragement she has drawn not only from her family, but from her students as well.
