More Than 1,000 Tonnes Of Rotting Seaweed Swamp Kent's Beaches

A potentially lethal health warning has been issued in the United Kingdom as a surge of decaying seaweed sweeps across holiday beaches.

More than 1,000 tonnes of seaweed has been removed from Kent's holiday beaches between Minnis Bay and Broadstairs in just five weeks due to the surge in toxic sludge.

It's said to have cost Thanet district council £65,000, but they're still unable to clear the seaweed from some areas due to marine conservation zones.

The reason behind the toxic invaders coming to our beaches has been put down to ideal growing conditions in the North Sea with warming seas and strong winds.

Amy Cook, founder of the community initiative Rise Up Clean Up Margate, said while it's typical to get seaweed blooms in hotter temperatures, this year has been unusual.

She told a newspaper outlet that this year the smell of seaweed has hung over the whole town, which doesn't usually happen.

Seaweed is a macroalgae that can only grow in seawater. As it decays it can emit a gas called hydrogen sulphide, which can impact fish and be deadly.

UK government guidelines also explain how prolonged exposure to the seaweed can cause headaches, eye irritation and respiratory problems.

However, while the seaweed continues to cause problems, Thanet district council can't remove it from some locations due to the presence of a chalk reef which is a marine conservation zone.

Earlier this year it was revealed that beaches in Weymouth, Dorset experienced the same problems.

One of Britain's most popular seaside resorts, Weymouth reported signs that the beaches were gradually being reclaimed by nature thanks to a mass of pungent seaweed.

Swimmers complained of having to wade through the carpet of kelp to get to the sea.

Children have also found themselves draped in its slimy strands as they came out of the water, leading to locals calling for the 'smelly' stuff to be removed.

But council officials in the Dorset town said they have no plan to clear away the seaweed, which helps 'preserve the integrity of the ecosystem' and is an important food source for sea creatures.

This is probably because councils have no money to collect because all of it is being spent on illegals coming across on small vessels.

However, it's not the only thing that's being washed up on our beaches. Raw sewage is being washed up onto our shores thanks to the Tories.

Seaweed is washed up onto the shores every year, and this year is no different to previous years. The main problem is the sewage that's being dumped because of neglected infrastructure, and then they blame it on this so-called climate change, and all because it fits the unproven climate agenda.

Sewage being dumped into the sea has caused this. This has nothing to do with global warming.

It used to be collected and used in gardens, but they'd now rather spend the money on whatever is vogue and tell us they have no money to do this. If this had washed up in London, Sadiq Khan would be getting money from the rest of the country to clean it up.

When seaweed washed up on the shore it was given to the local farmers for free for fertiliser on the basis that they collected it. In recent years the council will only sell the seaweed to the farmers, hence why it's not collected.

This is just local authority greed and farmers could have it if they paid Kent Council money for it, and whilst Kent Council would actually benefit from the farmers removing it free of charge, it won't happen because the Council begrudge the fact that fertiliser might be free to farmers.
