The FCA hosts two shows during its November exhibit: "Tom Lockhart's Fine Art" and "Mini
Masterpieces" with Featured Artist, Elizabeth Gamache. The exhibit also contains "mini
masterpieces" (none larger than 6 x 8") submitted by talented local artists.
The show debuts with a First Friday opening reception from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3. During the First Friday Reception, wine will be served thanks to the generosity of the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey.
The monthly Finger-Painting Challenge fundraiser starts at 5:30 p.m. The FCA Board members
square off against the Cañon City Police Department. The finished paintings will be auctioned
off after the challenge. The silent auction ends at 6:30 p.m. with all proceeds going to FCA's
Capital Campaign.
About the featured artists:
Tom Lockhart is an award-winning landscape artist, born and raised in the San Luis Valley and
now a Cañon City resident. His work, often done "en plein air (outdoors)" celebrates the natural
beauty of Colorado and surrounding areas. Tom is primarily self-taught and has been a
professional artist for more than 30 years. Lockhart believes that solid drawing, correct values, and colors, along with the atmospheric effects of light within a landscape, are some of the keys
to a visually stimulating and interesting image.
Elizabeth Gamache, a locally based Colorado artist, creates clay art figurines, melts bottles to
create bottle art, and paints with acrylic on wood panels or canvas. Her textured art pieces,
such as her "Dirty Art Trail" series, demonstrate her fondness for painting with bright colors.
She derives subject matter from things that inspire her, such as Colorado sunsets, aspen trees,
trout, ravens, wild horses, desert scenery, mountain trails, and the moon. She also teaches
painting classes at Fremont Center for the Arts.
The show runs from Nov. 3 through Nov. 24. During that time, FCA invites you to our gallery to explore the ways our contributing artists portray the "Mini Masterpieces" theme through a variety of media. All pieces are available for purchase. About Fremont Center for the Arts (FCA)
