The Fremont County Sheriff's Office has notified the community that a sexually violent predator has moved into the area of the 1700 block of Grand Avenue as of Wednesday.
Robert W. Stewart has moved to 1750 Grand Ave., No. 4. He is described as a white male, 6'03″, 345lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes.
Stewart was convicted of the following charges in 2014: three counts of sexual assault on a child and three counts of criminal attempt.
"FCSO takes his presence in the community very seriously and is intent on ensuring he conducts himself in a lawful manner, and that citizens remain safe and aware," the FCSO states on its CrimeWatch page.
The FCSO released the information pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes 16-13-901 through 16-13-905, which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender's release when the offender has been determined to be a sexually violent predator and is subject to community notification.
The purpose of this notification is to enhance public safety and protection.
Vigilantism, or the use of this information to harass, threaten or intimidate any of the following people is criminal behavior and will not be tolerated: the offender, the offender's significant others and the community notification team. Further dissemination of this bulletin by citizens is discouraged.
FCSO will also make all reasonable efforts to ensure that Stewart registers as a sex offender and that he understands his responsibilities as such. FCSO has made a "community notification" as required by law and undertaken the following tasks, among others:
Notified the Division of Criminal Justice's Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) Notification Team.
Reviewed and confirmed Stewart's residence, access to vehicles, legal status and past crimes.
Made notifications to neighbors and businesses deemed to be in the immediate area.
Briefed patrol personnel on Stewart's status, history, appearance, residence and vehicles.
Notified surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Provided an online video that describes the SVP community notification process, SVP information, and additional resources for the community.
