It's mini college time again at the Fremont Campus of PCC. Registration for class begins promptly at 8 a.m. Friday and will continue until classes start the week of March 18-22. For those of you who are new to the area or haven't heard about the mini college, here is some information about this outstanding event.
The first mini college began during the spring semester of 1986 and was designed to deliver quality educational programs of interest, relevance and excellence to meet the educational needs of the community, especially the senior population. These mini classes are all taught by volunteer instructors who are knowledgeable experts in their respective fields and who bring a vast wealth of experience and expertise to their presentations. Courses have included classes in: fine arts, personal growth, health and wellness, cooking, crafts, genealogy and creative writing just to name a few. A complete listing of the more than 105 class offerings this year can be found in the Feb. 20 issue of the Shopper or on the PCC Fremont Campus website, https://pueblocc.edu/Fremont.
Organizers are streamlining the registration process this year to better facilitate a faster and more enjoyable registration process. Seniors are to complete the Registration form found in the Shopper or on the website and select the classes they would like to take. Because classes fill up quickly, they must also select an alternate class before they can register. Seniors will only be able to register for themselves and one other person. There will be no telephone registrations. Payment for classes will be due at the time of registration. Cost is $10 per day or $45 for the week. Payment may be made with cash, credit card or personal check. Again, for detailed registration information and the registration form, please refer to the form included in the Shopper or on the PCC website.
Lunches will again be offered for purchase for $15 per day. See the Shopper or PCC website for complete details on luncheon menu offerings. Attendees may also bring their own lunch and eat it in the Learning Resource Center hospitality room. Lunch reservations and payment are due by 3 p.m. March 15.
The mini college will again feature its daily specialized interest groups. Monday will feature the general information and introduction. Tuesday will feature the General Resource Day, Wednesday is Meet the Authors Day and Thursday is Health Resource Day. There also will be some customized field trips on Friday.
The mini college has continued to expand and diversify course offerings based on student interest, relevance, and timeliness of current issues. The mini college is a great way to meet and interact with new people and friends, enjoy new and exciting learning opportunities and experiences, as well as expand one's personal growth by sharing ideas, time and talents. Organizers hope that community members will plan to participate March 18-22 and become an integral part of this lifelong learning process.
