My husband is 70 years old. He has had a transplanted kidney for 20 years and it is failing. He is now on dialysis. His transplanted kidney was a g perfect match from a live donor so it was a great 20 years. However, when we asked the transplant doctor at Northwestern Medical in Chicago about a second transplant the doctor stated that 2 things make this unlikely: 1. My husband has been on anti-rejection drugs for a very long time. 2.) The anatomy leaves little room to place another kidney. Yet I read about people having a second transplant. Are there hospitals/doctors that specialize in this? How do we find them? I would like to educate myself on this. Do you have any resources?
