Rep. Pettersen announces congressional art competition for 7th District high school students

DENVER—U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) today announced the start of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. This contest is open to high school students throughout Colorado's Seventh Congressional District. Each year, the United States House of Representatives hosts this competition to recognize talented young artists from across the country. Last year, over 90 students from 16 different high schools participated in the competition.

"There are so many talented students across my district, from the front range foothills to deep in the Rocky Mountains," said Pettersen. "This competition is not only a celebration of our students and their work, but also of our schools, dedicated educators, and inspiring art programs. After the impressive submissions we had in 2023, I can't wait to see what students create and submit this year. I hope all high schoolers in our area are able to participate."

How to participate:

In order to participate, students must attend school or live in the Colorado's 7th Congressional District. Individuals can confirm eligibility using a zip code here.

From 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, students or teachers may drop off art at Red Rocks Community College (13300 W 6th Ave, Lakewood). Art drop off will take place a week earlier on Monday, April 29 at Pettersen's Cañon City Office for those who are located closer to Fremont County.

The artwork will be displayed from Tuesday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 15, and judging will take place on the Wednesday, May 8.

On Friday, May 10, a reception will be held for all participants and their families.

The winning entry will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building for one year. The winner will also be invited, along with a family member, to attend the Annual Congressional Art Show reception held in Washington, D.C. Runner-up entries will be displayed in Pettersen's Lakewood, Cañon City, and Washington D.C. offices. Last year's winning submissions can be viewed here.
