The beatdown of Palmer by the Cañon City Lady Tigers began with a six-run top of the first and ended with the local side plating nine in the top of the fourth to finish off the 23-2 rout. CCHS scored five in the second and three in the third. The Lady Terrors got both of their runs in the bottom of the third.
The Lady Tigers racked up 17 hits and drew 16 walks. They also had three batters hit by pitches and were the beneficiaries of three Palmer errors. Conversely, CCHS only allowed two hits, one walk, and one hit batter. The Lady Tigers played error-free ball.
Cañon City improved to 9-7 on the season and 2-1 inside the CSML South. The Lady Tigers ride a four-game winning streak into Thursday's Bat Game at Florence. Cañon City has won nine straight in the series and 12 of the last 14. Last year, it was a 27-9 victory for the Lady Tigers.
Tigers blank Thomas MacLaren 3-0
After being shut out by Pueblo West last Tuesday, Cañon City bounced back with a clean sheet over Thomas MacLaren on Tuesday, taking the win by a 3-0 score. It was the second shutout of the season for the Tigers, who also blanked Pueblo East just short of two weeks ago.
The Highlanders only registered four shots on goal, with none finding the back of the net. CCHS put three of its 12 shots home.
The junior varsity squad had a rough go, falling 4-1. They fired 13 shots on goal in the match.
CCHS hosts Salida on Thursday, with the JV playing at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity following at 6:30 p.m.
