Rain, Resilience, & Routines

January 2025 Newsletter
Hi read,
Happy New Year! January always feels like a fresh start—a chance to reset routines and refocus on what matters most. We hope this year brings growth, connection, and joy to you and your family. Here are some helpful tips and resources to make daily life a little easier for your child and you.
💚 OT Tip-of-the-Month for More Joy & Ease in Daily Life
Routines provide a sense of safety and predictability, which can be especially grounding after the excitement of the holidays. Kids thrive when they know what to expect! Whether it's a morning checklist, a consistent bedtime sequence, or a weekly family tradition, establishing routines helps kids build independence and reduces power struggles.
Keep it simple: Start with one or two daily routines, use visuals or timers if helpful, and let your child take an active role in making it work. You'll be amazed at how much smoother your days can flow!
☀️ Recommended Resource-of-the-Month:
This month's resource is all about finding creative ways to get outside and get moving, even on these rainy days! This can help all of us get our energy out and stay regulated despite the change in weather. Rainy days don't have to keep you inside! This article is full of creative outdoor activities for wet weather, like measuring rain, making rain art, or creating music with raindrops on household objects. It's a fun way to stay active, burn off energy, and embrace the season. Check it out!
🌳 OKOT Story & Service Updates
With the change of seasons, we're embracing more wet and rainy days, and it's been great to see the kids adapt and continue to thrive in all kinds of weather! On a recent rainy day, we all worked together to make hot chocolate and build a rain shelter for our group. It was amazing to see the kids practicing cooperation, turn-taking, and teamwork to get the job done. The group showed incredible flexibility and resilience in the wet weather—and we all enjoyed the warmth and comfort of our hard-earned hot chocolate afterward! ☕🌧️
