Wednesday Workshop,  A Muddy Detour Slide, & Summer Camp πŸ•️

February 2025 Newsletter
Hi read,
We've opened applications for summer camp and fall groups in all of our locations. Details are at the end of this email! Hope you enjoy these February stories and resources…
πŸ’š OT Tip-of-the-Month for More Joy & Ease in Daily Life
Conflict between kids is a natural (and important!) part of development. Instead of rushing to solve problems for them, try guiding them through the process by offering observations and encouraging collaboration. Phrases like, "I see that you both want to use the same space. What could we do so that everyone gets a turn?" can help children develop problem-solving, flexibility, and social-emotional skills. The key is to NOTICE what is happening, state the obvious, and encourage children to find solutions. The more they practice, the more confident they'll become in working through challenges independently.
☀️ Recommended Resource-of-the-Month:
We're trying something new to help your family right away (without waiting or paying for services!) and give you access to our occupational therapists for FREE! Join us for our first online virtual Wednesday Workshop on March 5, 12-1 PM, hosted by 2 of our OTs. You'll learn A Brain-Based 3-Step Proven Process to Help Your Child Calm Down. We'll walk through how to support regulation, build trust, and turn tough moments into learning opportunities. (And we promise not to recommend things that are completely unrealistic for parenting real live human kids!) 😊  Sign up here! You must RSVP by Feb 28 to get the link sent to you for the call.
🌳 OKOT Story & Service Updates
During free play in one of our Wisconsin groups, the kids found a muddy embankment that made the perfect slide. A few decided to dig a cave—right in the middle of the sliding zone. With a little support, the group came up with their own solution: the slide would temporarily close for "construction," and a detour slide would open nearby. It was a great reminder of how kids, when given the space, can collaborate and problem-solve in creative ways. And of course, they got plenty of messy, full-body sensory input along the way!
