The goal of this study is to find out why professional teachers leave the classroom and what actions stakeholders may take to keep them there.
A qualitative research design was used in this study.
The research was carried out in Bhutan and lasted a year.
Methodology: Semi-structured interviews and written responses to open-ended questionnaires were used to obtain data from 15 former instructors. The approach of directed content analysis was used to evaluate qualitative data.
Four conclusions emerged from the data analysis. Human, social, structural, and psychological capitals are all present. The findings were subsumed into human and social capitals since structural and psychological capitals were either the source or the effect of human and social capitals.
Conclusions: From the perspective of former teachers, this study looked into the reasons behind teacher attrition. Two measures for teacher retention are recommended based on the data analysis. Renovating or constructing new physical structures, as well as reforming leadership selection systems, are among these initiatives.
