Once you pass your PANCE, the next steps the follows are job hunting if you have not secured one already and getting your license. This is going to be focused on getting your license, more specifically the New York State license.
First up, look for your state's licensing office which you can find on AAPA's list of licensing boards. They have a link to every state's office and from there you are going to follow the instructions given. There would be paperwork that is required and each state is different. To have a look at what is required AAPA also has a pdf of all the state's requirements. It is unanimous that showing proof of graduation from an accredited program as well as the passage of PANCE. Some states require NCCPA certification or other certifications that you would need to look into on the state's website.
Once you have an idea of what is required, you need to contact the appropriate bodies to have official paperwork sent to the licensing office. NCCPA has a convenient option on its site to send the required paperwork. Just an FYI, I thought I could just send the certification that I have passed, but the NYS office required the score as well, so I would recommend just sending both in this case and it cost nothing to you. Contacting your school's registrar is another office you would need to do since they are the ones to send the licensing office your proof of graduation. The registrar should be familiar with the required paperwork and where to send it to. In NYS, Form 2 was required to be filled in my and the registrar's office part. Required forms can be found on your licensing office's site.
Now specifically for the NYS license, we are required to do an infection control course and receive a certificate. This is something we would need to renew every 4 years while practicing in NYS. There is a list of websites and companies that are provided by the licensing office that you can choose from. It does not take long to do and does come with a small fee.
Once everything is submitted, it will take a bit to process. Mine took a month to get processed and mailed to me. I would email the office once a week to see what is possibly missing and where they are in the process. I do recommend keeping track of your application and figuring out if something is missing ASAP as it will just delay the process that much longer.
Some other tidbits are if you have or looking to secure a position before taking your PANCE, you can ask the employer if they have someone who can help you with the licensing process or cover it all together. There are some agencies if you find a recruiter that is willing to help you with that as well. Otherwise, handling the paperwork is not hard, it is tracking and waiting that is the annoying part.
I hope this helps! Best of luck!
