John Patrick Zavala, MSEd, Teacher at Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
With 24 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Zavala has excelled as both a music teacher and band director for the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District since 1999. Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued an education at California State University, Long Beach, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in music education in 1997. He concluded his studies at Concordia University Irvine, earning a Master of Science in Education in 2021.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Zavala has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He notably held the role of speech and debate coordinator at Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. Additionally, Mr. Zavala has volunteered for Kiwanis International and the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Zavala remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been active as a professional trombonist for the past 20 years, performing with multiple local musical theaters, bands, and orchestras, including Jazz Band One, Jazz Band Two, and Long Beach Dates. Mr. Zavala has also worked as a credentialed social studies and computer science teacher. Moreover, he has served as a member of the Freemasons for several years, with which he was likewise appointed as a chaplain, marshal, and master mason.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Zavala has accrued several accolades throughout his career. Under his leadership, Hacienda La Puente Unified School District's band received a Superior Grade Band Score from the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association, and several of his former students have ranked highly in national music and debate competitions. Mr. Zavala considers the large body of former students who have subsequently become university graduates as his greatest achievement. In the immediate future, he hopes to become a teacher coach and eventually finish his career as an assistant principal or principal.
