πŸ’š OT Tip-of-the-Month for More Joy & Ease in Daily Life
One of the best things you can do for your kids is to let them be bored. It's the easiest parenting hack that no one is talking about. Your job as a parent is to love your children and keep them safe…NOT to entertain them. It is OK to let them be a little uncomfortable and figure things out on their own. When children are not constantly entertained, it allows their brain to rest and gives space for them to learn problem-solving and creative thinking.
☀️ Recommended Resource-of-the-Month:
Along the lines of letting kids be bored, one of our favorite "parenting" books here at OKOT is Free Range Kids by Lenore Skenazy. This book will help you relax more and have way less stress as a parent.
🌳 OKOT Story & Service Updates
In our Madison location, we recently had some big storms, including tornadoes. During a weekly session following the night of storms, our kids were all abuzz with the excitement of the prior evening. Each of them wanted to recount their tale of the storm. When shifting into our woodworking activity that day, we asked the kids what they wanted to create together. Unanimously, they decided to make a "Tornado Trophy" to present to the child who was absent that day. It was such a creative group idea that their friend ended up being delighted to receive at the next group. These are the kind of stories that warm our hearts as nature-based therapists (& we know you love them as parents, too.) πŸ₯° See some pics below:
