Due to a multitude of symptoms I had blood tests taken twice (3 weeks apart). In this time my eGFR dropped from 79 to 63, creatinine increased from 80 to 96umol/L, serum potassium increased from 3.5 to 4.8mmol/L and serum urea increased from 4.2 to 7.5mmol/L. Sodium levels remained the same. I am female aged 41. Since the second set of results I have experienced flank pain on and off (both sides, multiple times per day) and occasions of swelling of my feet and ankles (never before experienced). My GP has decided this is due to dehydration and told me to drink more fluids but I had already increased fluid intake after the first set of blood tests and stopped drinking cola and other carbonated drinks, switching to water only. I am concerned that the changes in levels is significant in such a short time – should the doctor be taking these more seriously than they are? Should I be requesting further investigation? Thanks.

The serum creatinine can vary between 10 and 20 micromole […]
