Enrique Montero, MD, PhD, Research Professor at the Beckman Research Institute with the City of Hope National Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who's Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in immunology and biotechnology research.
With more than 25 years of professional experience, Dr. Montero has excelled as a research professor at the City of Hope National Medical Center's Beckman Research Institute since 2016. Since 2015, he has been a visiting scientist at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, and from 2010 to 2015, he was the chief scientific officer of experimental immunology for Biocon. From 1994 to 2015, Dr. Montero garnered experience as the department head of experimental immunotherapy at the Center of Molecular Immunology.
Dr. Montero began his career as a research fellow at the Pasteur Institute in France in 1996. The same year, he found success as a clinical research scientist at the Oncological Institute of Italian Switzerland. From 1998 to 2000, he was a visiting scientist at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, and from 1994 to 2015, he was a professor of immunology at the Superior Institute of Medical Science. To keep abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Montero has maintained affiliation with the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies and the American Association of Immunologists.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Montero earned a Doctor of Medicine in clinical and surgical services at the Superior Institute of Medical Science in 1989. In 1993, he became a first degree specialist in immunology, and in 2001, he became a second degree specialist in immunology. Dr. Montero concluded his higher education at the Superior Institute of Medical Science, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in immunology in 2004.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Dr. Montero has received myriad awards, including a Gold Medal Award from the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2015 and the National Annual Prize from the Academy of Sciences in Havana, Cuba, in 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014. Dr. Montero holds numerous patents for various innovations, including methods for the treatment of infectious chronic diseases, methods for controlling fucosylation levels in proteins, and for methods of making monoclonal antibodies. In his spare time, he enjoys music and traveling.
